How to increase sales on Amazon India: what changed in 2026 and what to fix first
Find where Amazon India orders are lost, then fix that stage with listing quality, price after the 2026 fee changes, the Featured Offer, fulfilment and ads.

Key takeaways
- Amazon orders are lost at one of four stages: shoppers do not see your listing, do not open it, do not buy, or buy and send it back. Find your stage before you change anything.
- Amazon's 2026 fee changes make price a bigger lever: a small price move near the zero referral fee limit can change your profit per order a lot. Check profit per order before any price cut.
- Amazon gives you tools for each stage, including Seller Central reports, the free Seller Assistant, Automate Pricing and the Voice of the Customer dashboard. Use them before you pay for anything else.
- No one can promise sales. We left out Amazon's uplift percentages and incentive amounts, because its own pages disagree and none comes with a method.
How to increase sales on Amazon India: find where orders are lost, whether at visibility, clicks, conversion or returns. Then fix that stage: listing quality, price after the 2026 fee changes, the Featured Offer (Buy Box), fulfilment, ratings and ads. Amazon's free Seller Assistant can help draft listings. Check profit per order first; no method can promise sales.
How to increase sales on Amazon India: find the stage first
Start with one basic check: is the listing live, in stock and eligible to be bought? If not, nothing else matters yet. If it is, match what you see to a row in this table and fix only that stage.
| Stage and symptom | Check this first | Amazon tool to look at |
|---|---|---|
| Not live or not buyable. No orders at all | Listing status, stock above zero and whether you hold the Featured Offer for the product. | Inventory, and the Buy Box Wins tile |
| Visibility. Live, but shoppers rarely find it | Search amazon.in for your product with two or three different phrases. Check category, title and keywords in the listing. | Seller Assistant, Brand Analytics if you are brand registered |
| Clicks. Found, but few open it | Put your main image and price beside the top results. Is yours weaker or dearer for no reason? | Automate Pricing, Sponsored Products |
| Conversion. Opened, but few buy | Price after fees, rating count, delivery promise, bullets and images, and a description that matches what you ship. | Voice of the Customer dashboard |
| Returns. Orders come, profit does not | Return reasons by product and the cost of one return after fees. | Voice of the Customer dashboard, settlement reports |
Change one thing at a time on one listing, compare the same number of days and avoid sale events, which lift orders on their own. Keep a change only if profit per order holds.
What changed on Amazon India in 2026
| When | What changed | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| From 16 March 2026 | Zero referral fee on products under ₹1,000 across 1,800+ categories, announced on 2 March 2026. It applies to select categories. | Price is a bigger lever, especially near the limit. See Amazon zero referral fee explained. |
| From 7 September 2026 | Closing fees updated, which Amazon's fee page ties to higher logistics costs. | Re-run your profit per order if you priced before this date. |
| 2026 | Amazon's free Seller Assistant, an AI assistant for sellers, went live in Seller Central. | Use it to draft listings, then check every line yourself. |
Price after fees: the threshold effect on Amazon
Price to earn on every order first, then to compete. Amazon's fee page shows a referral percentage that applies to the whole price once you are above the zero band, and a closing fee that steps up at price bands, so a small price move can change your fees a lot. Use the made-up sum below, then repeat it with your own category row in the Amazon India profit calculator.
Say a product costs ₹600 all in and sells for ₹999 with GST at an illustrative 5% inside the price and a referral fee of 0%. Say your closing and weight handling fees together come to ₹120 an order, 10% of orders come back at ₹100 return shipping and 5% of returned items are too damaged to resell. In this example the profit per order is about ₹218.
| Selling price (₹) | Profit per order (₹) | Orders needed for the same total profit, per 100 today |
|---|---|---|
| 999 (today) | 218 | 100 |
| 949 | 171 | 128 |
| 899 | 123 | 177 |
| 849 | 76 | 289 |
In this example a ₹50 cut needs 28 more orders for every 100 you get today just to earn the same total profit, and a ₹150 cut needs nearly three times as many. Whether a cut brings extra orders depends on your category and rivals. Amazon's own advice after the fee change includes repricing, so test it on the numbers, not on hope.
Listing quality: Amazon's own checklist and tools
Amazon's seller pages describe three ways to list: match an existing product, upload many with templates, or create a new listing with images, title, bullets and description. Its Great Indian Festival page promotes a listing checklist of six or more images, one video, five bullet points, competitive pricing and active stock. That is Amazon's checklist, and it does not promise any ranking.
- Main image and gallery. Use real, sharp images that show what you ship. Check the image rules for your category in Seller Central, because we could not read them.
- Title and bullets. Say what the product is, for whom, and what is in the box, in plain words.
- Seller Assistant. Amazon says it can draft a listing from a photo, a URL or a text description and show fees. Treat the draft as a first pass.
- Brand owners. Brand Registry is free with a pending or registered trademark, and it unlocks A+ Content, Stores and Brand Analytics.
The Featured Offer (Buy Box) and fulfilment choices
When several sellers offer the same product, Amazon picks one offer to feature, which sellers call the Buy Box. Amazon's pages say only sellers with excellent metrics and performance can get the Featured Offer, and that using services like FBA can improve your chance. They publish no formula.
| Route | What you do | What Amazon's pages say |
|---|---|---|
| Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) | Send stock to Amazon, which stores, packs and delivers | Gets the Prime badge and supports Pay on Delivery. Storage, pick and pack and weight handling fees apply. |
| Easy Ship | You store and pack; Amazon picks up and delivers | Supports Pay on Delivery. The Prime badge is by invitation. |
| Self Ship | You store, pack and deliver with your own courier | No Amazon shipping fee, no Pay on Delivery, and no Prime-style badge except through Local Shops on Amazon. |
Amazon also runs STEP, a performance-based programme that groups sellers into levels. Its pages name cancellation rate, late dispatch rate and return rate among the inputs, and tie payment timing and some fee waivers to your level. Read the targets shown in your own account. Dispatch on time and cancel rarely: both help every stage in the table above.
Ratings and returns: keep the orders you win
An older Amazon seller blog says Amazon sends a review request after delivery, and its Voice of the Customer dashboard shows customer feedback so you can reduce returns and negative feedback. Read your lowest-rated feedback each week, fix what repeats (size, colour, quality, packing) and make the listing match what you ship. Earn reviews through good service and follow Amazon's review policy: we give no advice on incentives.
A return costs more than shipping, because the sale is lost and the stock can come back unsellable. How to reduce returns and RTO was written for Meesho, and the method of sorting returns by product and reason works on any marketplace.
Amazon ads: Sponsored Products basics, and when to wait
Amazon describes Sponsored Products as pay-per-click ads for individual listings in search results and on product pages. Sponsored Brands needs Brand Registry, according to Amazon's brand pages. Ads send more shoppers to a page; they do not fix it. Wait until the listing is live, fairly priced, in stock and not returning heavily.
The test is one line: break-even ROAS = selling price ÷ profit per order before ads. In the example above that is 999 ÷ 218, about 4.6: every rupee of ads needs about ₹4.60 of sales to pay for itself. Judge each product on its own, because one thin-margin product can burn the budget another earned.
Amazon's own seller tools, by name
Amazon lists FBA, Sponsored ads, Automate Pricing, Coupons, Deals, the Voice of the Customer dashboard, the Seller App and Seller University on its seller tools page. Seller Central adds Catalogue, Inventory, Pricing, Orders, Advertising, Growth, Reports and Performance sections, with tiles such as Buy Box Wins and Account Health. Amazon seller tools in India maps these, with a checklist for deciding whether any outside tool adds something.
Claims I would not repeat
| Claim you will see | Why we would not repeat it | What to do instead |
|---|---|---|
| "A+ Content raises sales by a set percentage" | Amazon's own pages give different uplift figures for it, with no method printed. | Test on one listing and measure orders and profit. |
| "The Prime badge multiplies your sales" | It is an undated Amazon marketing line, not a result you can expect. | Compare the fees FBA adds with your margin first. |
| "Zero referral fee means zero fees" | Closing fees, weight handling fees, other fees and GST on fees still apply. | Work out profit per order with the live fee page. |
| "Account Health targets are fixed numbers" | Old blog posts quote numbers that the current pages do not repeat. | Read the targets in your own Seller Central account. |
| "Buy review packs to rank higher" | It breaks Amazon's rules and can get the account stopped. | Earn reviews with good service. |
| "You will earn X a month" | Profit depends on your cost, price, fees, returns and ads, which no guide can see. | Work out your own profit per order. |
Selling on Meesho too? Compare profit first
Different marketplaces charge in different ways, so a product can earn more on one than another. Put the same product through the Meesho profit calculator and the Amazon one with each marketplace's own charges, and compare profit per order, not sales. Meesho vs Flipkart vs Amazon for new sellers lays out the differences, and which marketplaces Rocket Listing works on says plainly where the extension helps today.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
01How can I increase sales on Amazon India?
Find where orders are lost: visibility, clicks, conversion or returns. Then fix that stage with listing quality, price after fees, the Featured Offer, fulfilment, ratings or ads, using Amazon's tools such as Seller Central reports and the Seller Assistant. Change one thing at a time and judge it by profit per order. Nothing can promise sales.
02How do I get more orders on Amazon?
Make sure the listing is live, in stock and buyable, then compare your main image and price with the top results for your product. Work out profit per order before you cut a price, ship on time and cut returns, and consider ads last, once you know your break-even ROAS. Amazon does not publish a ranking formula.
03What is the Buy Box and how do I win it?
It is the offer Amazon features when several sellers sell the same product, which Amazon calls the Featured Offer. Amazon's pages say only sellers with excellent metrics and performance qualify, and that services like FBA can improve your chance. It publishes no formula, so work on price, dispatch, cancellations and returns.
04How do I optimise an Amazon listing?
Use real, sharp images, a clear title, bullets that say what the product is and what is in the box, and an accurate description. Amazon's listing checklist for its festival asks for six or more images, a video, five bullets, competitive pricing and active stock. The Seller Assistant can draft a listing; check every line.
05Do Amazon ads work for small sellers?
They can bring more shoppers to a listing, but an ad pays back only if enough clicks end in orders at a profit. Work out break-even ROAS first: selling price divided by profit per order before ads. Start with one product that is live, fairly priced and in stock, and set a stop rule before you spend.
06Does zero referral fee help new sellers?
It can lower the fees on products priced under the limit in the categories it covers, which makes price a bigger lever. It does not remove closing fees, weight handling fees, other fees or GST on fees, and it does not bring orders. Check your category's row on Amazon's fee page and your profit per order.
